Republicans like Mitch McConnell have destroyed our country. Meanwhile, the press has “both sides-ed” us right into a second Donald Trump presidency. Grassroots media, like this Substack, has become the people’s voice. Please consider supporting my efforts to bring you the information you need and deserve. I started writing this article about Mitch McConnell a week ago after he voted against Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard, and RFK Jr. in their Senate confirmations. I’d seen multiple people lauding the self-proclaimed “Grim Reaper” for his so-called bravery and patriotism. The reactions were laughable because he’s such an unpatriotic, anti-democratic monster. Now that he’s announced he’s retiring, I figured it was the perfect time to express how much I loathe him for what he has done.
I firmly believe nobody in modern-day politics has done more damage to the country than Mitch McConnell.
In 2010, Republicans were furious! They couldn’t believe the first Black president and his Democratic majority had the nerve to guarantee Americans had access to healthcare. Two days after the midterm elections where Democrats lost dozens of seats, McConnell spoke to a crowd at the Heritage Foundation and said his number one goal was to make Barack Obama a one-term president. The senator said they had to do so if they wanted to rip the Affordable Care Act away from people.
That’s right, his real goal was to strip Americans of health insurance and allow them to continue to die as healthcare CEOs rolled around in mountains of cash Scrooge Duck style.
In 2012, Obama sailed to a second term, and McConnell settled for blocking every piece of legislation, judge, appointee, and policy he could. As I thought about the consequences of McConnell’s efforts at that time, I vividly remembered a handful of especially egregious incidents.
Sandy Hook Votes
In April 2013, I sat in my car outside my best friend’s house and watched a Senate vote. Just five months earlier, I’d sat in my car outside of my 2nd grader’s elementary school glued to my phone as news came in about a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. Twenty first graders and six educators were massacred in the school right before Christmas. The Senate vote was on gun safety measures that Democrats proposed in response to the murders.
I screamed in frustration as McConnell’s goon squad blocked every. single. bill. while the Sandy Hook parents and other gun violence survivors watched from the Senate gallery. They shouted “Shame on you,” and Obama called it “a pretty shameful day for Washington.”

We all knew the bills were going to die in the Senate because McConnell had done everything he could to fearmonger in the weeks leading up to the vote. A month after the shooting, the senator sent out a taped telephone recording to Kentucky residents promising to block the efforts.
“President Obama and his team are doing everything in their power to restrict your Constitutional right to keep and bear arms,” McConnell said. “Their efforts to restrict your rights, invading your personal privacy and overstepping their bounds with executive orders, is just plain wrong.”
Ironically, a decade later we found out it was actually conservatives invading their own personal privacy. Oops.
Supreme Court Theft
The Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in 2022, rescinding federal abortion protections for women. McConnell made that possible.
On February 13, 2016, Americans received the news that sitting Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died in his sleep while staying at a West Texas hunting ranch. Obama nominated Merrick Garland to fill his seat in the following weeks, but McConnell had other ideas.
The then-Senate majority leader declared he would not hold a hearing for Garland because the American people deserved to choose their next justice. He argued that he shouldn’t have to fill the seat in an election year. Predictably, he didn’t keep that same energy in 2020 when Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg died and her seat was left open two months before the election.
As a result of McConnell’s unconstitutional theft of Scalia’s vacant seat, Trump was able to appoint three Supreme Court justices during his first term. Those justices voted with the other three conservatives and became the first court in history to annul an individual constitutional right.
McConnell also successfully prevented Obama from filling dozens of vacancies in the federal courts. In 2019, Fox News Moron Sean Hannity told the senator that he was surprised the 44th president left so many judicial seats unfilled. McConnell laughed and said, “I'll tell you why. I was in charge of what we did the last two years of the Obama administration.”
McConnell Gave Us Trump
Trump and McConnell were once allies. The former Senate majority leader made it possible for Trump to ram his tax cuts and judicial nominees through Congress during his first term. The senator’s wife even worked in the administration.
Then the two had a messy falling out. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he saved the Republican Party from the failed leadership of McConnell and has attacked the former Republican leader mercilessly.
While Trump thinks he’s the GOP Messiah, the rest of us know the truth: Without McConnell there would be no Trump.
Not only did McConnell’s vitriol and hate help create a Republican Party that was pliable enough for a person like Trump to rise to power, but he also saved him during both impeachments. The worst of those was after the January 6 attack on the US Capitol led by Trump.
McConnell blamed Trump for the riots that left dozens of cops injured and one officer dead (plus several who took their own lives later). He said the president was “morally responsible” for what happened. While he talked a big game, McConnell ensured his caucus would vote to acquit Trump during the second impeachment AND didn’t even bother to hold a trial that laid out the evidence to the American people.
The vile senator claimed that “impeachment was never meant to be the final forum for American justice.” Instead, he said, “We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation. And former Presidents are not immune from being held accountable by either one.”
I would argue that were it not for McConnell’s actions during the second impeachment, Trump would have been convicted and not ever allowed to hold office again.
Unfortunately, at every step of his career, McConnell proved to be the singularly biggest piece of shit to hold a leadership position in my lifetime. He did everything in his power to break down norms and disrupt the workings of the Senate. He made it possible for Republicans to shamelessly violate the Constitution. He gave rise to the movement that is currently working to end the great American experience of self-governance and install a dictator.
Fuck you, McConnell, for being the reason women are dying across the country because they’re unable to access reproductive healthcare. Fuck you, McConnell, for creating an America where a billionaire megalomaniac can run rampant through the federal government and fire thousands of civil service workers who keep the government functioning. Fuck you, McConnell, for the children who will die across the world because the Trump administration has refused to spend money already allocated by Congress.
Fuck you, McConnell, for the rollback of rights for LGBTQ+ Americans. Fuck you, McConnell, for the attacks on DEI, including the firings of veterans who were protected by those very policies. Fuck you, McConnell, for creating a political culture so divorced from reality that RFK Jr., Gabbard, etc. were even nominated in the first place. Fuck you, McConnell, for the racism that is front and center in our country and the degradation of America’s reputation on the international stage.
Our democratic institutions will never recover from the damage brought upon them by Mitch McConnell. I will not ever give him credit for bucking Trump at the end of his career when he did nothing to stop him over the last decade.
McConnell once called himself the Grim Reaper because he killed so many Democratic bills. I can only hope he meets the real one soon.

Thank You for saying that. He’s such a TRAITOR to the American people and American Values. He’s finished his job. We are now part of the new USSR
Mitch can eat shit and die! He has singlehandedly done more to destroy our country than anyone. He could have stopped tRump his first term. Instead enabled him. Fuck off Mitch.
